Watts WH-LD Review

This Watts unit is a very nice 1-stage whole home water filtration unit. The clear housing not only looks nice but also provides functionality – it allows you to see when the filter is getting really dirty and time for a replacement.

It’s equipped with ¾” metal fittings. The metal is a nice touch as many other models on the market seem to be using plastic. Although there’s an argument that plastic is just as good, some people are adamant that plastic will crack over time so the choice of going with metal will give some buyers more piece of mind that this unit won’t leak.

The built in bypass valve is very handy when it’s time to change the filter cartridge. There’s no need to turn off your water supply or buy and install separate on/off valves on your pipes to control your water flow.

Priced at just over $40, this is a great cost effective solution to cleaner water in your house. The unit uses standard 10 inch filters giving endless option of filter types, micron size, brands, and price options.

This is a 1-stage filter and may very well be all you need for your water supply. It is also an ideal unit to use as a pre-filter to clear out larger particles from your water before it flows to a finer filter like the 3M Aqua Pure AP903, for example. Or, put 2 or 3 of these Watts units in line with different filters in each to suit the filtration needs of your water.

Overall, the quality of this system is top notch and is backed by a 1-year warranty. The price is attractive, at well under $50 plus you get a total of 3 filter cartridges which will save you $15-$20 for your first filter change.

The only downfall is that this product doesn’t come with a mount. There’s a cheap solution though – as recommended by others, it’s almost essential to purchase the Culligan UB-1 mount.
