EQ 1000 Aquasana Water Filter Review
The Aquasana EQ 1000 has an attractive look and much more importantly, exceeds expectations when it comes to filtering water for your house. Backed with hard data, the system will remove up to 97% of chlorine found in your water supply. And, as a key mention by almost every verified buyer, it completely eliminated the taste and smell of chlorine, not to mention odors and tastes of other metals that can be found in some peoples’ tap water.
The unique dual filter main tank called the Rhino is powerful and durable, and guaranteed to keep chlorine out for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 gallons! That’s a 10 year warranty on the main tank!!
The Aquasana Rhino sends water through the upper filter. This upflow optimizes the amount of time the water stays in contact with the filter media which is comprised of copper-zinc and mineral stone. Longer exposure to the filter media means more effective filtration of chlorine and heavy metals. The lower chamber of the Aquasana Rhino is an active carbon filter which reduces pesticides, herbicides and various other chemicals that can often be found in your water supply.
With the Pro Kit, you also get a pre-filter that goes in front of the Rhino and post-filter after it for extra water clarity, before entering the pipes in the rest of your home water system.
The pre-filter is a “big blue” 20-inch filter to clear out sediments, rust, silt and other larger particles. Removing these large particles first prevents them from clogging the next stages and keeps the water pressure flowing.
The post-filter is a “big blue” 10-inch filter. Out of the box, the filter media is sub-micron and will clear out any leftover sediment, bacteria and other organic particles down to an impressive 0.35 microns!
As with most whole house sediment filters, expect to change the pre-filter about every 3 months. The post filter should last about a year. And again, the main Rhino tank is guaranteed to last for 10 years/1,000,000 gallons of water flow.
Since the pre and post filters are “big blues”, when it comes to replacements, you’re not limited to Aquasana filters. These are very common sized chambers and will hold a variety of different brands and micron size filters to suite your filtration needs and budget.
Another impressive feature of the Aquasana filter is that there’s no need to back flush to maintain the system. The only maintenance required is to change the filters when necessary. And changing the filters is super easy.
The only knock against this whole house water filter system is that Aquasana installation can be a bit tricky. Many people claim it’s an easy installation but more than likely, these are hand-men/women who enjoy tackling these types of home projects. It’s recommended that you hire a professional if you don’t have any plumbing experience. Also be aware that we’re reviewing the Pro Kit here and it includes brass fittings which are highly recommended by professionals. Without the Pro Kit, the fittings are plastic.
The upfront cost is a little bit on the higher end but the overall performance and effectiveness puts the Aquasana EQ 1000 amongst the best whole house water filters available. With a 10 year warranty, consider it a long term investment rather than a liability that comes with cheaper systems.
